Photographer unknown—probably a family member, 1917
This image has been restored from a very faded print from an already scratched and dusty negative.
In Hyvinkää
After returning to Finland, Alexander and his family settled in Hyvinkää,
north of Helsinki.
In this photograph we see Alexander and Hilja Eufemia,
around a table having tea or coffee with two guests.
Standing next to his mother is Niilo, 5½ years old.
The guests, I
would guess, are Hilja Eufemia's two sisters Lyyli and Hellä.
Lyyli was a teacher and seems to have had a wristwatch, which were not very common at the time.
Behind the coffee table is a piece of furniture that has travelled a long way with the family
and now stands restored in our kitchen.
